At approximately 1:03 p.m. today, Santa Monica College Police Department received a call from the staff of Olympic High School about a student with a possible firearm in his backpack, in the high school’s program which is currently located on the Pico extremity of SMC’s Main Campus (the former Admissions complex).
SMC Police Department officers responded to the scene to investigate and confirmed that there was a loaded firearm in his backpack and took the suspect into custody. The suspect is a male juvenile high school student. Santa Monica College Police Department arrested him for 626.9 of the California Penal Code (possession of a firearm on a school campus).
The suspect was transported to a Santa Monica Police Department facility for processing and booking. SMC Police Department will be conducting a thorough investigation of this incident and is committed to protecting the college community.
