SMC Malibu Campus Closed Today Due to Franklin Fire

The Santa Monica College Malibu Campus is closed today and on-ground classes/exams are cancelled due to the fast-moving Franklin Fire. If you are enrolled in a class at SMC Malibu, please check in with your instructor via Canvas or SMC email. Classes/any exams scheduled today will be pivoted to an online environment and/or alternate arrangements will be made.

As of approximately half an hour ago, most of the eastern half of Malibu was ordered evacuated, and the rest of the city was under an evacuation warning. Pepperdine University has issued a campus-wide shelter-in-place. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, there was no containment and about 2,000 structures are affected by the mandatory evacuation order.

The SMC Police Department and college staff are monitoring the situation.
