SMC Malibu Campus Remains Closed December 11 Due to Franklin Fire
The Santa Monica College Malibu Campus will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, December 11 due to the impact of the Franklin Fire, which broke out late last night and has since spread to over 2,800 acres. If you are enrolled in a class at SMC Malibu, please check in with your instructor via Canvas or your SMC student email. Any exams or classes scheduled at the Malibu Campus for December 11 will be pivoted to an online environment and/or alternate arrangements will be made.
As of 3:53 p.m. today, the Franklin Fire has spread south across Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and is threatening structures on Malibu Road, near Malibu Pier, Serra, Civic Center, Malibu Knolls, Sweetwater Mesa, and other neighborhoods. Road closures include: PCH from Topanga to Kanan Dume, Malibu Canyon, Las Virgenes from Mulholland to Lost Hills. The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) has also shared that their schools in Malibu will be closed tomorrow, December 11 and Thursday, December 12.
