SMC Malibu Campus Remains Closed Monday, December 16; Will Reopen Following Assessment for Smoke Damage
Sent on behalf of SMC’s Senior Administration & the Emergency Operations Team
The Santa Monica College (SMC) Malibu Campus remains closed on Monday, December 16 to allow for an assessment of smoke damage. The latest update shared by the City of Malibu today at 2:26 p.m. confirmed that evacuation orders have been lifted and road access fully restored. The Pacific Coast Highway is now fully open with traffic moving in both directions; certain roads remain accessible to residents only, with photo ID. Any classes/finals scheduled for Monday, 12/16/2024 will be pivoted to an online environment or alternate arrangements will be made. If you have a final/class scheduled there, please check in with your instructor via Canvas or your SMC student email.
The SMC Emergency Operations Team continues to monitor conditions around SMC Malibu. Any future updates—as always—will be sent to your SMC email and shared on the college’s official social media channels. We are tremendously grateful for the coordinated response by first responders and all the agencies involved that led to a semblance of normalcy being restored.
