SMC Malibu Campus Closed Today Due to Brush Fire at Malibu Canyon & PCH

The Santa Monica College Malibu Campus is closed today and on-ground classes are cancelled due to a brush fire at Malibu Canyon & the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Classes will pivot to remote instruction wherever possible; if you are enrolled in a class at SMC Malibu, please check in with your instructor.

Per a citywide emergency alert at 9:29 a.m., the fire department was responding to the brush fire which was at 5-8 acres with high winds. Under current conditions, spread to 50 acres was expected within the next half hour. The public has been advised to be prepared for potential evacuations, power outages, hazardous roads. SMC Police Department has received word that PCH is closed in both directions. College staff and SMC Police personnel are assisting to help safely evacuate those on campus.
