Mental Health Resources for Students

Dear Santa Monica College Students,

As shared by SMC Superintendent/President Dr. Kathryn Jeffery in her earlier communication, the college has been working to coordinate support resources for those who need assistance to navigate the emotional impact of the tragedy that took place on Oct. 14.  We are writing to share some of those emotional/mental health support resources that will be available in the coming days and weeks.  Please do not hesitate to make use of these resources—you are not alone:

  • Center for Wellness and Wellbeing (CWW): The CWW is offering remote services for the remainder of this week, with both in-person and virtual services resuming on Monday.  Please visit the CWW website to schedule appointments.
  • SMC 24/7 Emotional Support Line: Our dedicated SMC emotional support line is available to our community by calling 800-691-6003.
  • Group Processing Sessions: Staff from the Center for Wellness and Wellbeing will be facilitating confidential group therapy sessions for students on Thursday and Friday. These sessions are an opportunity to process your emotions in a safe and supportive environment. You can access the sessions via Zoom (Password: smc90405)
  • In-Person Support at the Center for Media and Design Campus: In person therapeutic services will be available on the CMD campus next week. Please contact the CWW to schedule an appointment with a counselor.
  • Department of Mental Health (DMH): DMH will be on campus throughout next week to provide mental health outreach and support to students, faculty, and staff. We encourage you to take advantage of this resource as needed.
  • Therapy Support Animals: On Monday, October 21 and Tuesday, October 22, therapeutic support animals will be available during activity hour in the quad.

Remember that it’s okay to feel a range of emotions. Please take care of yourselves and reach out if you need help. We are committed to providing a supportive environment where everyone has the space to heal and be heard.

We will get through this together.
