Media Production
Capture Your Audience with a Career in Media Production & Broadcasting
SMC's media production program provides hands-on experience in real-world settings
across television and radio broadcasting, including broadcast news, sports, podcasting,
promotional videos, short-form media, and virtual and augmented reality — yes, there
is a difference. We house a popular radio station KCRW at the Center for Media and
Design, bringing the industry to the classroom. Students receive instruction and training
designed to support seamless entry into the broadcasting industry or a four-year degree
program.
The Promo Pathways program provides intensive training and internships for students pursuing promotional
advertising careers.
Media Studies
The media studies program at Santa Monica College focuses a lens on mass media history
and analysis. Students develop the critical thinking and analytical skills needed
to assess, unpack, and problem-solve issues surrounding mass media’s effect on society.
We examine the media’s representation of social class, age, ethnicity, race, gender,
and sexuality. As a result, you become a more informed, empowered audience member.
