Welcome to the CMD Counseling Page

CMD Counseling is available to students enrolled in programs based at the Center for Media and Design campus. If you're studying Animation, Architecture, Broadcasting, Digital Media, Esports Production, Film, Graphic Design, Interior Architectural Design, Interaction Design (B.S.), Journalism, or Media, you can book an appointment with a CMD counselor.

Free confidential short-term individual counseling services are available to Santa Monica College students from the Center for Wellness and Wellbeing at the following satellite campuses: Bundy, Center for Media & Design, and Performing Arts Campus.

General Education Patterns

If your goal is to achieve an associate's degree, you will need to complete a general education track. Which general education pattern is right for you? 

Associate Degree GE(PDF File) (opens in new window) : If your goal is to complete the associate's degree and enter the workforce, this is the right pattern for you.

CSUGE(PDF File) (opens in new window) : If your goal is to prepare for transfer to a Cal State University, and you began college prior to Fall 2021, this is the right pattern for you.

Course Sequences 

Below you will find links to approved course maps that were designed to inform your education planning and course selections. Although many CMD program courses do not enforce pre-requisites, there is a specific course sequence that should be followed in order to assure you are developing the skills necessary prior to taking advanced level courses. 

Students new to SMC or CMD

If you are not yet a student at SMC or not taking courses at the Center for Media and Design but would like to speak with a CMD counselor about your interest in a CMD program such as: Animation, Architecture, Broadcasting, Digital Media, Film Production Or Film studies, Graphic Design, Interior Architectural Design, Interaction Design (B.S.),Journalism, Media, please contact the General Counseling & Transfer Services program via email or call the phone number below.  You need to provide your student ID# - or indicate that you are not yet an SMC student - and phone number. Be sure to specify you are requesting to meet with a CMD Counselor.
