Welcome to Florence! This city is most famous for art and fashion, but it romances
its visitors with so much more - busy markets, must-see views, world-class Italian
eating, and narrow streets full of Renaissance history. Florence educates the mind
and stirs the soul. Join professor Taneka Washington, to explore the Cathedral of
Santa Maria del Fiore, travel by train to The Leaning Tower of Pisa, visit a cheese
farm and enjoy many galleries and museums. While in Florence, students will experience
first-hand the art, architecture, music and musical instruments associated with the
Renaissance, and come to understand how history has shaped this modern Italian city.
Cost: $1,009 per person, excluding international flights, some ground transportation,
some meals and course tuition and fees.

will learn about the art history and cultural traditions and explore locations of
unique interest.
Professor Taneka Washington
Professor Taneka Washington was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She received her
Master's degree in Art History from California State University, Los Angeles and her
BA from Occidental College. For the last 7 years she has taught various Art History
courses, primarily online, at numerous universities and community colleges. She has

and historical monuments with Ellie, her plush elephant, and share them in hopes of
inspiring other people to travel. She's a firm believer that travel is a great way
for people to learn about other cultures and to become more culturally sensitive.
So far, Taneka has traveled to 35 countries, many of those countries repeatedly.
Professor Susan Kolko
Professor Susan Kolko has been instrumental in the growth and development of the fashion
department at SMC. Her coordination of special events, field visits and student employment
opportunities continue to elevate the program's success. She is a world traveler,
studied abroad in college and carries both a US and Italian passport. Susan is an
east coast native, a graduate of Syracuse University, a jewelry designer and is currently
writing a book about clothing for people with special needs. She loves art, music,
