Students who use this resource are more likely to get off of probation the next semester

loop of things. I am so excited to get back to SMC and am now doing well in my courses.

"I was very busy one semester keeping up with class, work, and family responsibilities.
My grades tanked. Still, the Probation letter was a shock. I hadn’t thought much about
my GPA before, so I didn’t realize I had let my grades get so out of hand. I was ashamed
and embarrassed at first. How did I let this happen? After talking with and SMC counselor,
I felt a little better. Eventually, I saw this alert is SMC's way of making sure that
everyone is doing okay. I can understand that, and I’m glad this process is there
for students when we need it. This experience increased my awareness of policies and
expectations, but it also connected me with counselors who helped me figure out how
to manage my schedule. I ended up taking a semester off, and that helped me get back
on track. Graduation is around the corner, and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished
at SMC.”
"I truly learned from the information provided in this workshop, and ended up getting
2 As, and 1 B because I realized what time management is and what works best for me.
I took a Counseling 20 class which helped me get my whole future in line and helped
me realize how important school is. I worked really hard and it made me proud of myself
because I realized what I could really do if I just put my mind to it. If I had to
do something different next semester it would be to push myself even harder, and now
I have even more incentive to do it because my GPA is rising!"
"When I got this academic notice due to my poor grades, I had to complete this workshop.
The workshop stressed the importance of my college transcripts. I understand that
it is never too late to change; that I could make up those blemishes (F's) on my transcripts.
From that point, I was motivated. I began to work harder, change my study habits,
and I just believed that I could be a better student. It wasn't easy. I started from
the bottom and just worked my way up."
