Facility Rentals Frequently Asked Questions

Classroom rental requests for internal users can be made through our virtual EMS system. We are not renting classrooms to outside parties at this time. 

No, the rental fees we charge are the only financial means of funding the on-going operations of the facility. Discounted rental fees are available to qualified non-profit events.

The majority of dates for the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage are filled by the Santa Monica College Dance and Music performance groups as well as BroadStage productions. We are happy to check date availability once we understand the requirements of your event.

Theater rates are based on an 8-hour per day rental fee of $6,000 ($4,000 for non-profits) Monday through Sunday. Additional charges are calculated for all labor (house management and technical staff), production equipment rented on your behalf by the house, and limited custodial and security services. Only our staff can operate our equipment and plug into the house. Site supervision is required whenever you are working on site. We do not offer ticketing services, but can recommend several online box office companies for your event. We do not offer marketing services and do not have any control over the website thebroadstage.org, however your may be listed under "Visiting Events" on their calendar. We are happy to post a graphic to our digital marquee - located on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and 11th Street - that can be posted up to 90 days prior to your event date. 

Yes. We require $2,000,000 in general liability insurance for any event that is held on stage or filmed on location at the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage. Certificates must name the Santa Monica Community College District, its Board of Trustees, officers, agents, employees and volunteers as additional insured for the activities of the named insured on the premises. The certificate holder is Santa Monica, College, Attn. Risk Management, 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90405. A PDF of the certificate must be emailed to rudolph_robert@smc.edu with the original mailed to the certificate holder address. Liquor liability is required for all events serving alcohol. District retains the right to modify any and all indemnity and insurance requirements based on evaluation of risk. 

Note: activities involving youth participation require additional insurance coverage. 

Parking is on a space available basis at a rate of $10/space. Clients are required to protect student and staff parking when SMC classes are in session. Reserved parking is available for a limited number of spaces. Directions to the theater.

Yes, alcohol can be poured or sold by a properly licensed caterer, at private events in which guests are members of the general public and not students of the College. A certificate of insurance showing $1 million in liquor liability must be provided by the caterer and name the Santa Monica Community College District, its Board of Trustees, officers, agents, employees and volunteers as additional insured for the activities of the named insured on the premises. A fully executed signed contract and 50% of your total estimated expenses or 100% of your rental fee are due soon after your contract meeting. The final balance and insurance documents are due thirty (30) days prior to the event.
