Appeal Process for Financial Aid Reinstatement
If you have been disqualified from receiving financial aid, either for exceeding the maximum time-frame or for failing to meet the GPA or pace (completion rate) standards, you are entitled to go through the appeal process for financial aid reinstatement. Federal law allows schools to approve appeals if injury, illness, death of a relative, or other special circumstances affected a student's ability to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
NOTE: If you have already earned a BA/BS degree and you are submitting an appeal, please know that if your appeal is approved, you will only qualify for Federal Direct Loans. Students who have earned a BA/BS degree do not qualify for Pell grant funding.
How to Appeal
-
If you attended another school other than SMC, submit official transcripts to Admissions prior meeting with your Academic Counselor.
-
Meet with an Academic Counselor (Contact the Counseling department for an available appointment).
Be prepared to discuss your specific educational goal (AA, vocational certificate, or transfer) and major at the meeting with the counselor. Together you will create an Educational Plan. -
Complete the SAP Appeal through the Corsair E-docs Student Portal. You will upload the Ed Plan and any other supporting documentation that supports your appeal.
