SMC offers free career education programs for adults 18 and over with no prerequisites! Noncredit career training opportunities in Business, Health Care, Early Childhood Education, Sustainability, and transition to College and Career. SMC also offers free English As a Second Language and Citizenship classes offered year-round.

The Adult Education Center offers free English as a Second Language, Citizenship, Adult Basic Education (English and math) and Adult Secondary Education (diploma, GED/HiSET test preparation) classes for adults 18 and over. Dedicated teachers provide educational programs in individual and group settings online.

Chrysalis helps clients overcome barriers to reconnect to the workforce. Job-readiness program include individualized case management with access to supportive services, including transitional employment opportunities.

Employment and training services funded under the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant to assist veterans, individuals receiving unemployment insurance benefits, and individuals with low income that are receiving supplemental benefits. To enroll, clients are pre-screened and attend an orientation.

Santa Monica Public Library, with the support of the California State Library, offers scholarships to Career Online High School. Students earn an accredited high school diploma plus a career certificate in one of the following fields: Certified Protection Officer; Child Care and Education; Commercial Driving; Food and Hospitality; General Career Preparation; Home Care Professional; Homeland Security; Hospitality and Leisure; Office Management; or Retail Customer Service.

The Hospitality Training Academy (HTA), provides training for low-income and underserved populations to obtain employment in the hospitality and food service industry and to move up the career ladder to the middle class. HTA trainings, which include customer service, Vocational ESL classes, skills upgrades and vocational training, as well as resume assistance, and mock interviewing, offer participants the tools they will need to succeed and to pipeline into a union, hospitality job with good wages and benefits.
