Chemistry Club

The Santa Monica College Chemistry Club was founded in 1995.  In 2012, the club was chartered into the American Chemical Society as a Student Chapter. The purpose of the club is to increase awareness of the relevance of chemistry in modern society and to facilitate student success in the discipline of chemistry and related disciplines where an understanding of chemistry is essential. The club also provides an opportunity for students with similar interests and career goals to meet and socialize.

In order to realize these objectives the club is typically involved in a variety of activities. These include: field trips to chemistry laboratories at local academic, industrial or public institutions; developing and performing chemical demonstrations at Club Row and local elementary and middle schools; and hosting fun, engaging activities during weekly meetings that involve chemistry like making ice cream, root beer, or soap, playing chemistry jeopardy and participating in intramural activities like Club Olympics.

Pre-Health Professionals Club

This club was founded in August 2000 for those who aspire to careers in health fields such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary, nursing, allied health, and pharmacy. Our club activities include regular speakers from many of these fields, participation in a variety of volunteer activities, and a variety of social events. We also have an active executive board consisting of 9-12 officers who coordinate each semester's events. Regular meetings occur in Science 157 from 11:15-12:15 on Thursdays during spring and fall semesters.
