A bit about me:

Colleges Attended: UC Irvine (undergraduate), CalArts (graduate)
Majors: Literary Journalism (BA), Dance (BA), Choreography (MFA)

I went into UCI "undeclared" knowing that I liked writing and dance but unsure what to do with either. My love of storytelling led me to Literary Journalism while my passion for performing and creating drew me into the Dance program. After college I co-founded a dance company with my UCI friends and continued building my teaching, performing, and choreographic career. Dance has taken me all around the world and connected me with the most beautiful communities. I try to pay it forward with my work at SMC by creating opportunities for growth and connection for my incredible students!

A bit about me:

Colleges Attended: USC
Majors: Accounting (both Bachelor and Masters)

I’m excited to welcome you to explore the field of business.  Prior to joining the SMC faculty, I worked two years in public accounting at Ernst and Young and 8 1/2 years in the entertainment industry at Fox in Internal Audit and in Television.  While working at Fox, I travelled national and worldwide on business.  So, I love to travel.

I’ve coached baseball for many years and am a Dodger fan!!  Born and raised in LA, I have gone to school, played ball or coached in many parts of LA.  So, I welcome all students from the greater LA area, out of state and other countries.

I have been at SMC for over 25 years.  I love this place!!  I have been an active partner for many years with the Black Collegians Program as a mentor as well as a member of the SMC Men of Color Action Network (MOCAN).

First Gen proud!

I became a professor because I was inspired by one of my undergraduate professor’s passion for Ethnic Studies and social justice, and I wanted to make a difference in student’s lives like he did mine. I want to help inspire first generation students of color to pursue their dreams through education.

STEM

Professor Kristin Lui-Martinez
Mathematics Department

Student Office Hours:

A bit about me:

Colleges Attended: University of California, Davis (Scientific Computation and Mathematics; Applied Mathematics)

Due to my mother’s racialized experiences with racism, she strongly encouraged me to pursue a career in mathematics once she recognized my skills with math. She believed that by embracing the model minority stereotype (a myth), that I would be inoculated against similar racist experiences. Unfortunately, I still had negative experiences due to my identity as a woman in STEM. Despite these experiences, I enjoyed learning the wonderful facets of mathematics and its application to data mining and machine learning. I’m thrilled to help students develop their understanding of mathematics and find the joy and beauty of math for themselves.
