What You Need to Apply to SMC
Sponsor's Official Bank Statement to demonstrate you can meet SMC's estimated tuition and living expenses. Additional financial information may be required. View the list of estimated tuition and fees.
A copy of your passport information and expiration page.
Records from the last school attended. If the school was a college, university, or high school within the US, official transcripts must be sent directly from the awarding institution to the International Education Center at SMC. US transcripts must show a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Note: All submitted documentation becomes the property of SMC International Education Center and cannot be returned.
The fee to apply is $75.00 USD and is nonrefundable.
*This is not required for admission to Intensive English Program.
Write a personal essay (must be at least 500 words) explaining your reason(s) for applying to Santa Monica College.
Be sure to include the following information in your personal statement:

Do you wish to earn an Associate degree and/or transfer to a university?

If you wish to transfer, which institution(s) do you intend to apply to for transfer?

Required only for students transferring from US language institutes, colleges, or universities. For students currently attending language school, college, or university in the US in F-1 status, and transferring to SMC.
You must have your application completed, paid for, and all required documents uploaded by the dates posted above.
All students must be 18 years old at the time of initial attendance.
Applicants ages 16-17 by the first day of initial attendance will be considered, provided the following special requirements are met:
- Applicants must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the semester for which they apply.
- Applicants under the age of 18 must have completed high school.
- Applicants under the age of 18 must have a guardian that lives within 75 miles of the main campus of Santa Monica College (1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica)
Guardian Requirements: The guardian can be a family member, family friend, or homestay. The applicant’s guardian must be at least 21 years old.
The applicant must provide the following documents, to be uploaded to their International Application
