Academic and Personal Counseling

International Education Counselors provide academic and personal counseling for F-1 Visa and overseas international students. Counselors are available year-round to assist students in a variety of formats.

Counseling Appointments via Zoom for continuing students*now available*

To make a 30-minute appointment, email IntlEd@smc.edu with your full name, SMC ID number and current country location. We will only offer these appointments through October. The request must be sent from your SMC student email address. Zoom appointment invitations will be sent to your SMC email address on the day of your appointment (also check your spam/junk folder). A photo ID is required to start the session. If none is provided, the session will be cancelled.

The QLess line will close if the number of students waiting far exceeds available counselors. Please check back periodically, as the line may reopen.

If you are using a cell phone to sign into QLess, please download the QLess app first.

  1. This service is only for F-1 Visa and overseas international students with a local U.S. phone number.
  2. We'll send you a text message to alert you when we are ready.
  3. The counselor will call you at the number provided when it's your turn to be seen. Make sure cell phone settings are adjusted to receive a call from an unknown or "no caller ID" number. Otherwise, the call goes to voicemail.

  • Monday:  10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. 
  • Tuesday:  12 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. 
  • Wednesday, Thursday:  11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

NOTE: We are experiencing a high volume of student requests to join our Zoom Express Counseling. This service can only accommodate a certain amount of students per session. We ask for your patience during this peak period as our staff is limited. If the room is locked, please check back periodically, as the room may reopen. 

​Meet with a counselor for a 10-15 minute​ session to receive assistance with:

  • Course planning for continuing students 
  • Over units (9 in summer and/or up to 18 in Fall)
  • Guided Self Placement questions
  • Pass/No Pass; Course Repeats

Fall Zoom Hours
