Free, Noncredit Online Class
English 1E, taught by Professor Hari Vishwanadha, is a noncredit, free, online course that offers students an opportunity to receive timely feedback on rough drafts before submitting the final version of assignments. Students can submit drafts of any assignment in any course they are enrolled in at SMC.
English 1E is offered year-round: Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer--for the entire semester or session. Students may enroll at any time during the semester/session.
Students submit rough drafts online to the course home page in Canvas at online.smc.edu.
How the Class Works
The instructor reviews the draft, offers suggestions for revision, and returns it to the writer within 12 to 14 hours of submission. Often, the draft may be returned within three to four hours. Students can resubmit their drafts for further review and revision.
In addition, the course features weekly online discussions on a variety of topics related to composition, ranging from the composing process to best practices of college-level research to the art of revision and more.
At the beginning of the fall, the course also features a University Transfer Application Workshop.
