Hi, my name is Jose Martinez. I am a young filmmaker who grew up in South East Long Angeles. I was raised in a large Hispanic family. I discovered my passion for lm through my love for music. I would visualize movies in my head whenever I listened to music. When I took trips with my family, I would bring along my iPod, my phone, and a 2004 Sony digital still camera. Although these devices didn’t shoot video very well and did horribly in low light, I loved snapping photos, filming memorable moments with my family, and making fun trip videos.
I have worked on fashion shows, talent shows, music videos, a feature lm, and short films (One of which became an AMPAS 2015 “Team Oscar” winning submission). I chose to become a music video director because of the creative freedom to express with complete originality. Although this is a big passion of mine, I know I will want to explore other creative niches such as graphic design and editing. My main source of inspiration is music. My favorite lyricists are Elizabeth Grant, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, and Bob Dylan.
My favorite Filmmakers are David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino, Tom Ford, Anthony Mandler, and Hannah Lux Davis.
My goal in life is to learn, educate, explore, and create.
