I moved to California in 2016 for studies at SMC and I stayed for two years until I moved back to Sweden in 2018 to gain some working experience. After five years in Sweden, I decided to quit my job and go back to SMC to finish my associate degree and prepare for a transfer. It was my chance to do what I actually wanted.
SMC exceeded my expectations in many ways; it provided a space where I could learn and grow safely, both as a student and individual. I loved my three years at SMC and there are many memories, people and professors that I will remember fondly.
Knowing that my goal was to transfer, SMC helped me prepare and plan for this from day one. International counseling center, college fairs and other resources and events helped me figure out how to go through with my application and showed me the opportunities that I had.
I enjoyed so many of my classes at SMC. I took three history classes with Professor Christopher Stiles during my first two years; I truly loved his way of teaching and his passion for history. I would also like to give a special thanks to Dr. Colin Smith-Clark who helped me grow my interest in research in psychology. Last but definitely not least, Professor Julie Chekroun. Julie provides a safe space for her students and truly cares about them not only succeeding but also thriving. I can't thank her enough for this.
