Internship Program

***PLEASE NOTE: Internships should be on-ground (in person) and local to the Los Angeles area. Approval is required for remote internships.***

Domestic students: Remote internships will be reviewed for approval by the internship coordinator as part of the application process.
International students: Most F-1 students are not currently eligible to participate in the Internship Program due to federal restrictions on Curricular Practical Training (CPT). For more information on F-1 eligibility and options, please email the International Education Center at intled@smc.edu to request an appointment with an F-1 Immigration Specialist.

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that the application process could take up to two weeks to complete and receive your Add Code, this is dependent on volume of applicants and when your application is submitted. Please take this into consideration when you are communicating your start date to your internship supervisor. Thank you for your patience.

Remote internships will be reviewed for approval by the internship coordinator as part of the application process.

The Internship Program application process takes time. Submit your application at the beginning of the Internship Program enrollment period (see Internship Enrollment Dates below), so you can start interning as early as possible.

Remember there are fewer weeks to complete the same required number of hours during the summer sessions than the fall or spring semesters and you cannot begin counting your hours until you are enrolled in the internship class and the term (session/semester) has begun.

Internship Program Application Questions

Please note that you will be required to log in with your SMC email account/username (not your ID number) and password. Complete and submit the form. Forms time-out after 45 minutes.

If you cannot complete it, and the form has been enabled to save your progress, click the “Save Progress” button at the bottom of the page. You can return to it later by signing in at smc.edu/myforms. The "MyForms" portal shows forms you have submitted and those you have in progress.

Click on “Pending/Draft Forms”.
Identify the form you would like to resume and then click on the “Complete Form” button on the right side of the screen.
To review forms you have submitted in the past, click on “Forms History.” Then click on the icon for PDF or for the HTML view.
Once you have completed the missing questions/items, click the “Submit” button.
Once submitted, you will be prompted to view and download a PDF version of the submitted form. You can always see it, too, by login in at the MyForms portal.

Step 3: Wait to receive confirmation from the Career Services Center

After submitting your Internship Application, it may take up to 5 business days for the Career Services Center to review your form and email you the next steps. Messages are sent to your SMC email address (accessible via Corsair Connect and not through Canvas). Again, consider the Internship Application Form processing time and how many weeks you have to complete the course when determining if you should enroll in the Internship Program. There are fewer weeks to complete the same required number of hours during the winter or summer sessions versus the fall or spring semesters.

Step 4: Check your email often until the application process is complete, after which you will be issued an add code.

Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email instructing you on what to do next. There are multiple steps to getting your Learning Objectives Contract approved. Typically, this process takes a week or 2, but it can take longer, depending on how quickly you and your supervisor respond to emails, and the availability of the Internship Program Coordinator. Once the process is complete, you will be given an add code.

Please check the Internship Program Enrollment Deadlines for more information about when applications are accepted, and the enrollment period for each term. It is important that you plan accordingly, considering this processing time.

Fall 2026

The Fall 2026 enrollment period for the Internship Program will begin Friday, August 21, 2026 and end at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026.

You must apply by October 16 to have an opportunity to get an add code for a Fall 2026 internship class.

**Please note:

DEADLINE TO REQUEST TO ENROLL IN COUNSELING 90D IS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 18, 2026 BY 5 P.M.
No applications will be accepted after the Friday, October 16, 2026 deadline.
Internship hours must be completed by Friday, December 18, 2026.
The Internship Program application process (including receiving an add code) may take 7 to 10 business days so please plan accordingly. You cannot begin your internship or counting hours towards your internship without an add code from the Internship Program Coordinator. The timeline can vary based on how quickly you and your internship supervisor respond to emails, as well as the Coordinator’s schedule, so staying responsive can help keep the process moving forward.

Spring 2027

The Spring 2027 application period for the Internship Program will begin Friday, February 12, 2027 and end at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 2, 2027.

You must apply by April 2 to have an opportunity to get an add code for a Spring 2027 internship class. The last add codes expire at the end of the 8th week of the semester, which only allows one week to get your application processed if you apply at the last minute. It is possible to run out of time to get an add code.

**Please note:

Deadline to request to enroll in Counseling 90D is Friday, March 5, 2027 by 5 p.m.
No applications will be accepted after the Friday, April 2, 2027 deadline.
Internship hours must be completed by Friday, June 11, 2027.

Summer 2027

The Summer 2027 application period for the Internship Program will begin Friday, June 11, 2027 and end at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2027.

You must apply by July 9 to have an opportunity to get an add code for a Summer 2027 internship class. The last add codes expire at the end of the 4th week of the summer session, which only allows one week to get your application processed if you apply at the last minute. It is possible to run out of time to get an add code.

**Please note:

No applications will be accepted after the Friday, July 9, 2027 deadline.
Internship hours must be completed by Friday, August 13, 2027.

Employers

***PLEASE NOTE: Internships should be on-ground (in person) and local to the Los Angeles area. Approval is required for remote internships.***

Domestic students: Remote internships will be reviewed for approval by the internship coordinator as part of the application process.
International students: As of 8/2026, due to federal immigration regulations, international students must complete their degree requirements and receive work authorization from USCIS before they can begin an internship or job, paid or unpaid. There are a few exceptions, and students with an exception approved by USCIS will have documentation.
