Michael Tuitasi was appointed Vice President of Student Affairs in 2008. He currently oversees the programs and areas that focus on student success, student engagement and the student experience on campus. These areas include Counseling and Retention, Athletics, Campus Police & Safety, Student Health and Psychological Services, Student Life, Judicial affairs, Disabled Students Programs and Services, Sustainability, EOP&S Program, Guardian Scholars, Veterans’ Resource Center, Career Services Center, CalWorks, TRIO Student Support Services, Pico Promise, Campus Alumni Relations, Child Care Center, Career Services Center, Transportation, Parking, Emergency Preparedness, and Special Programs at Santa Monica College.
He has nearly 25 years of experience working in higher education in the area of student services, including eight years as a community college administrator for Long Beach City College where he served as Dean of Counseling and Student Support Services. His areas of expertise include student success and matriculation, staff development, student engagement, program development and coordination, fiscal planning and management, grant management & compliance, and all forms of Counseling Services.
Mr. Tuitasi holds a master’s degree in Educational Psychology as well as a bachelor’s degree in Radio Broadcasting, Television, and Film from California State University, Long Beach.
