Robert received his BA from Antioch University in Culver City when he decided at 45 years of age, he needed a change. He also received his MFA in Writing for Creative Nonfiction at Antioch as well.
Robert discovered himself as a writer and a teacher while at Antioch, producing work which has been published in the NY Times, Diverse Voices Quarterly, LA Weekly and other journals across the country.
Robert taught self-reflective writing to incarcerated juveniles in LA County Central, and Los Padrenos facilities for over a decade. This is work Robert is extremely proud of, as his contributions helped improve the treatment of juveniles incarcerated in the oldest and largest juvenile detention system in the United States. He has maintained friendships with many of the previously incarcerated teens he worked with during that period.
Currently, Robert teaches autobiographical and memoir writing at Santa Monica College Emeritus, and academic, and creative writing at Antioch University in Culver City.
