About Dr. Chopp
Undergraduate and Graduate InstructorLicensed Clinical PsychologistPsychology ConsultantDr. Chopp is currently a faculty member at Santa Monica College. They have served as an instructor for the following courses: Introduction to Psychology (Psyc 1); Psychology of Communication (Psyc 5); Marriage, Family, & Human Intimacy (Psyc 6); Social Psychology (Psyc 13); and Abnormal Psychology (Psyc 14).
Dr. Chopp attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where they earned degrees in English Literature and Psychology. They completed their M.A. in Social and Personality Psychology from the University of California, Davis and their PhD in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Dr. Chopp’s local ties include work as a psychology intern and psychology instructor at the University of Southern California, a postdoctoral fellow and a psychologist at UCLA’s Counseling and Psychological Services, and a psychologist at CSUN's University Counseling Services. Dr. Chopp has also had the honor of teaching psychology graduate courses at Pepperdine University and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.Dr. Chopp is a licensed clinical psychologist who utilizes research-supported CBT and mindfulness-based interventions to guide individuals toward recovery from distressing symptoms and the creation of lives with meaning and purpose. Dr. Chopp is currently training to become certified as a provider of therapeutic interventions for specialized populations using FDA approved entheogens.In addition to their work as a psychology instructor and psychotherapist, Dr. Chopp is an experienced psychology consultant, Their scholarly work has appeared in the edited volume The health of sexual minorities: Public perspectives on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender populations as well as in The Journal of Counseling Psychology and the Journal of Gay and Lesbian Social Services.
