PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENTS

CalWORKs Office Holiday Closure Notice

The CalWORKs office will be closed for in-person services and offering remote services on Monday, December 23, 2024. Additionally, the office will be closed for the holiday break from Tuesday, December 24 through Wednesday, January 1.

We will offer remote services on Thursday, January 2, and Friday, January 3. Regular in-person services will resume on Monday, January 6, 2025.

CalWORKs Program

The California Work Opportunities and Responsibilities to Kids Program (CalWORKs) at Santa Monica College works in collaboration with the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) and the Greater Avenues to Independence Program (GAIN) to assist students who receive CalWORKs as a means of public assistance.  To be eligible for the CalWORKs program, students must currently receive cash aid/CalWORKs benefits for themselves and their dependent child/children.

• Individual academic and career counseling

• Coordination and advocacy with the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS)

• Priority Enrollment

• Work-study opportunities

• Workshops

• Referrals to campus and community resources

Program Requirements

• Students must currently receive cash aid for themselves and their dependent child/children.

• Please email CalWORKs@smc.edu to receive the CalWORKs application and to make an appointment to meet with the CalWORKs counselor.

General Questions (New and Prospective students)

Email to Request a Counseling Appointment (Continuing CalWORKs students)

Email calworks@smc.edu to book your next counseling appointment. Include:

• Full name
• SMC ID Number
• Days/Times you are available
• Reason for appointment

Use Corsair Connect to Book a Counseling Appointment (Available for Continuing CalWORKs students only)

1. Log in to Corsair Connect.
2. Locate the SMC Quick Link Section on the left-hand side.
3. Select Book a Counseling Appointment.
4. Select CalWORKs Program from the drop-down menu.
5. Select an available day/time that works for you.
6. Reserve your appointment.

New CalWORKs Students & GAIN Workers

• New GAIN students or GAIN workers are required to make an appointment to have GAIN paperwork/contracts completed. We will not see a new student/participant without an appointment.
