Are you a first-time college student or transferring from another school? Begin your enrollment at SMC here.
Requirements for New Students
- Must be 18 years of age or older; or
- Younger student who has graduated from a regionally accredited high school; or
- 16 years of age and possessing a "Student Score Report" for passing the California High School Proficiency Examination.
- Requirements differ for High School Concurrent Enrollment Students.
Steps to Apply:
Applying is easy! Just follow the steps below to complete enrollment.
Note: Parents should not complete the application on behalf of the student, but may assist.
Apply to SMC (opens in new window)
To begin the application process, you will need to create an account or sign in to OpenCCC, fill out the application, and submit. Be sure to read through the instructions carefully to expedite processing. If you completed your application correctly, you will receive a confirmation number and an email with the next steps.
Financial Aid (opens in new window) (if needed)
SMC offers a variety of financial aid and scholarships to help you reach your goals. Apply for aid early. Over $50 million in aid is offered annually.
Complete Orientation
First-time college students must complete Orientation (opens in new window) in order to receive an enrollment date and enroll in classes. Once you have submitted your application, look for an email with more information on how to complete this step.
Orientation is not required for transfer students but is recommended.
Review Course Placement
Once you have applied, you will get an email informing you how to review your Math and English course placement.

Develop Education Plan
Meet with your counselor to assist you with your education plan, course selections, transfer questions, and to learn about campus resources or create your own education plan using the award-winning MyEdPlan (opens in new window) .
Enroll in Classes
Congratulations! You have completed all of the steps above. Now you can search for classes (opens in new window) and enroll (opens in new window) in the term you applied for.

Account Recovery
If you have previously created an OpenCCC account but do not remember the username or password, you can recover your account information via email or text message by clicking the "Forgot?" tab on the CCCApply sign in screen. You will receive instructions to the selected recover method for recovering your username, and creating a new password. Santa Monica College does not have access to OpenCCC accounts and is unable to assist students in recovering their account information. Please follow up with OpenCCC if you are unable to recover your account using their account recovery system.
