Academic Senate

What is the Santa Monica College Academic Senate?

The SMC's Academic Senate is an organization whose primary function is to make recommendations to the administration of the college and to the governing board with respect to academic and professional matters. The Academic Senate is the only organization that has a place in California Educational Law (Title V); its duties listed in the 10 + 1 Responsibilities.

The Academic Senate Executive Committee consists of elected officers and the chairs of standing Senate joint and sub-committees. The Executive Committee serves as a steering committee for the Senate by recommending senate objectives and setting the senate agendas, which are then discussed and voted upon by a quorum of the full Senate.

Academic Senate and Executive Committee Meetings are held on alternating Tuesdays (11:15 a.m. - 12:35 p.m.) during the Fall and Spring semesters and are open to the public. Meeting agendas are posted on campus and here every Friday.
