Online classes are likely a good fit for you if you have good computer skills, are
organized, self-motivated, and need a flexible learning schedule.
SMC faculty, counselors, and staff are here to support you, and classes are designed
to help you be successful. Online classes are not harder or easier, just different.
Most faculty and students would say they are challenging, but manageable. Most work
will be done on your own time, usually with weekly deadlines.
Classes are hosted in the Canvas learning management system, which is easy to use
and also includes a mobile app. Most online classes are asynchronous, which means
you complete all classwork on your own time within class deadlines.
If you are graduating directly from a California high school, you may be eligible
to attend for free. See more information about the SMC Promise Program. If you are a California resident, it's only $46 per unit and much more affordable compared to most other schools. For out-of-state (nonresident) and international students, see more info on tuition and fees.
Check out dates and deadlines. Also, full academic and enrollment deadlines and events are available in the SMC GO app.
