Sustainability Systems & Technology (SST) Program

The SST certificates program is for individuals and students desiring to learn and earn in the new circular economy. There are three (3) free, noncredit certificates offered by the Earth Sciences Department, which are described below. You can kickstart a job in the burgeoning field of sustainable materials management, and be a step ahead in the job market by completing any one of the three (3) certificates.

  • Classes are free for all California residents.
  • All classes are conducted online with no in-person requirements.

Noncredit Sustainability Systems Technology Pathways

Certificates of Completion

Sustainability in Organics Aide

Noncredit

This certificate will introduce students to sustainability principles, practices in organics micro-composting, and sustainable food systems. Completion provides a pathway to jobs as entry-level micro-composter operators, sustainable food system technicians, sales representatives, and project management assistants. This program is not intended as a substitute for any credit certificate or Associate degree.

Sustainability Assistant

Noncredit

This certificate will introduce students to sustainability principles, community engagement, education and outreach, and policy governance. Completion provides a pathway to jobs as entry-level sustainability assistants and coordinators, community engagement representatives, researcher assistants, customer service representatives, and project management assistants. This program is not intended as a substitute for any credit certificate or Associate degree.

Sustainability Services Technician

Noncredit

This certificate will introduce students to sustainability principles, materials and environmental assessment methods, and clean technology systems and practices. Completion provides a pathway to jobs as entry-level sustainability assessors, program technicians, sales representatives, and entry-level managerial assistants. This program is not intended as a substitute for any credit certificate or Associate degree.
