About the Nursing Program

This program prepares students to meet the standards of the California Board of Registered Nursing. The program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Education in Nursing. Upon completion of the program, graduates receive an Associate in Science degree and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to become a Registered Nurse. The program empowers and prepares caring nurses who recognize the inherent worth of each individual and group to promote health. healing and hope. Students are encouraged to transfer to BSN programs.

On-Ground Science Lab Requirement:
  • Starting fall 2022, the SMC Nursing program will resume requiring science prerequisite courses (Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Microbiology) be completed with an on-ground lab. Science prerequisite courses completed fall 2022 or later are required to have an on-ground lab.
  • Nursing program prerequisites, major (with the exception of Nursing clinical courses), and Nursing graduation requirements must be completed with a letter grade of C or higher. P/NP or CR/NC evaluative symbols are not acceptable.
  • Save/keep your course syllabus for science prerequisite courses, especially for courses completed spring 2020 or later.
