RUBBERBAND Residency

SMC Dance Department partners with BroadStage to offer a three day residency which includes technique classes in the RUBBERBAND Method – an electrifying vocabulary combining the energy of hip-hop, the refinement of classical ballet, and the angular quality of contemporary dance, along with screenings, and repertory classes. The week begins with the BroadStage presentation of RUBBERBAND’s Second Chances, a work that invites the audience to delve deep inside themselves, reflecting on origin, belonging and displacement, between universal questions and intimate, personal thoughts.

RUBBERBAND – the electrifying fusion of hip-hop, classical ballet, and contemporary dance. Originally from Los Angeles, Artistic Director Victor Quijada's innovative choreographic vocabulary breaks barriers, blending the raw dynamic of hip-hop/break with the purity of classical formalism. Based in Montreal, RUBBERBAND has garnered international acclaim for its significant impact in dance and development of this new style inspired by break, classical ballet, and dance theatre. Prepare to be mesmerized as dancers seamlessly transition from vertical to horizontal, pushing the boundaries of traditional dance styles.

Performances:
Saturday March 8, 7:30 p.m.
Sunday March 9, 2 p.m.
