Welcome to the SMC General Counseling and Transfer Services Center!

The General Counseling and Transfer Services Center is available to assist all continuing SMC students.

First-time college students who have accumulated less than 30 units should see a counselor in the Welcome Center: (310) 434-8101

F-1 Visa Students must see a counselor in the International Counseling Center: (310) 434-4218

The General Counseling and Transfer Services Center is now seeing students on a drop-in basis. Arrive well in advance of our closing time to ensure being seen. Additionally, 5-10 minute Express Counseling is available to address quick questions.

Once you sign in to see a counselor, you can receive text messages updating you on your place in line.  Once you are notified that you've reached the front of the line, you have a maximum of 15 minutes to return to the office to be seen.  If you exceed the 15 minutes to return once notified, you will lose your place in line and will have to sign again.

If you are unable to enroll for a Math or English class, Anatomy 1, Biology 21, or Chemistry 11 you may come into our office with official or unofficial transcripts to verify that you have satisfied the prerequisite. For all other science waivers, please email ScienceWaivers@smc.edu for instructions through the Science Department.

Counselors do not provide counseling over the phone. However, some topics can be handled via Online Counseling which is available at smc.edu/oc.

We look forward to helping you with all of your academic planning needs!
