Primarily this group facilitates short workshops focused on reducing stigma related to mental health and providing strategies to help improve overall well being. Our Peer Educators commit to keeping the SMC student body well informed about health and wellness topics that are relevant to college students in a positive, interactive, fun, and nonjudgmental manner.
Meet SMC’s 2016-2017 Ready to Talk Ready to Listen Peer Educators
Hi! My name is Wendy and I'm here to lend an ear and a helping hand. I am a Psychology major here at SMC and I hope to transfer out and obtain a Bachelor's in Child Development and a Master’s in Child Life to become a Child Life Specialist. I hope that as a Child Life Specialist, I am able to motivate and inspire those who are going through what I went through at such a young age: battling cancer and loss of a best friend. With these experiences, I have grown a passion for helping others and I hope that with that passion I can help my fellow peers at SMC. We all go through really difficult experiences in life that make it a little harder for us to get by and seek help. As a Peer Educator I want to help those in need of someone to talk to, give information about how to get help, or just give out some friendly advice. If you ever feel that you are having problems at school, home, or battling a personal struggle I am here for you. I'm always in the cafeteria so feel free to come by and say "hi!"
My name is Robert Hatch, I'm 23 years old and a student here at Santa Monica College and recently switched my major from Art to psychology. I'm currently interested in pursuing Forensic Psychology to study criminal behavior. I'm originally from Ramona which is a small town in San Diego County and moved to Los Angeles when I turned 19. I joined the Peer Educators here on Campus so I can help others become better healthier students and to learn leadership qualities to further my career.
