CalWORKs students may be eligible to receive low cost or free child care while attending Santa Monica College. Students that qualify may select a licensed Child care Center, a licensed Family Day Care, or an Exempt (blood relative) provider to care for their children while they attend classes.

Note: Santa Monica College does NOT have an onsite child care facility. We provide child care referrals and subsidies to eligible CalWORKs students.

Child Care Qualifications

To qualify for child  ​care, you must be:

  • Enrolled in a minimum of 12 units or a combination of school and work. 

  • Referred by a CalWORKs counselor.

Number of Adults in the Assisted Unit

Current GAIN hour requirements:

  • Single-adult with a child under 6 years old: 20 hours required a week

  • Single-adult with NO children under 6 years old: 30 hours required a week

  • Two-parent families: 35 hours required a week
