IMPORTANT - Please Read

Welcome to the On-Campus Student Employment website. Below is a list of available on-campus jobs from various campus departments. At the top of each job description you will see the words *Federal Work Study and/or *Student Help. Carefully read each definition and decide which one best fits your qualifications.

FEDERAL WORK STUDY (FWS)

FWS is only available to students who have applied for and received a Financial Aid Award Letter with a Federal Work Study allotment. If you are an F-1 Visa student, you may not apply for FWS positions. FWS students are paid 100% through their Financial Aid Award. F-1 Visa students cannot apply for FWS positions.


STUDENT HELP

All SMC students can apply for Student Help jobs as long as they are enrolled in at least 12 Units.

F-1 Visa students can ONLY apply for “Student Help” positions. Many of these positions require that you already have a Social Security Card. (For more information regarding attaining a Social Security Card please visit the International Student Center located in Counseling Village near Pearl Street). If it is not already stated in the job advertisement, ask the interviewer if they will sponsor you for a Social Security Card if hired.
 

Payment Schedules:

All on-campus positions pay $10 per hour. Students may work up to 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters. If you are a "college Work Study student we recommend that you work no more than 10 hours per week in order to not exhaust your Work Study Award before the semester ends.

If the department that you are working for has Student Help funds you may be able to work during the Summer and/or Winter. You will need to discuss this with your supervisor.

Job description: SMC Office of Marketing & Graphics needs students to assist Graphic Designers working on posters, flyers, programs, adjusting digital images, managing images and files, etc. You will have an opportunity to learn professional procedures and for your work to go out to commercial printing. Interested students must have experience creating graphic layouts using page layout programs (InDesign), and bit-mapped image editing (Photoshop). Also Vector based (Illustrator), and we (Dreamweaver) are a plus. Must be Mac savvy.

Job description:  Collect recyclables (bottles/cans, paper, cardboard, etc.) from buildings and exterior areas of the campus. Deliver them to the appropriate locations. Sort bottles/cans. Keep recycling areas clean. Keep accurate records of work done each day.

Must have a current California Driver's license and the ability to drive an electric cart (Will Train). Job description: We are currently seeking applicants for Summer and Fall positions for all languages offered at SMC (ASL, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Russian, Spanish, Turkish). In this position you will use your language skills to help SMC language students to learn to communicate and to improve their language skills. In addition to language skills, it requires patience and dedication. The Tutoring Center is open from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Summer/Winter and 8:00 a.m.- 7:30 p.m. in Spring/Fall. Your schedule can be flexible in order to allow for your courses.  You must have a strong grasp of grammar in both English and the language you tutor. Ability to communicate complex grammatical principles in English-Dedication to customer service and helping your fellow students. Native Speakers or successful language students preferred. Applicants will be tested in their tutoring language or will require the recommendation of a language instructor to be hired.

Job Description: The SMC Athletic department is hiring federal work study eligible students to work as Team Managers for either the football, basketball and volleyball teams. The applicants will be responsible for setting up practices, bringing water to practice fields or court, and assisting with keeping stats, video taping practices and other duties as assigned by the coaching staff. Knowledge of the sports listed above is helpful.

Team Manager must be reliable, responsible, and able to work with others. Applicants must be able to lift and transport 10 to 20 lbs. of equipment to and from practices depending on the sport.

Job Description: Assist instructor during physical exercise classes designed for individuals who have had strokes or brain injuries. Some bending and limited lifting required. Must have the ability to follow directions, lift, bend and have patience in communicating with students who have a stroke injury. Communicate effectively with students who have disabilities.

Job Description: The Computer Lab Assistant will help students and faculty with computer related questions in a computer lab or classroom. Clean computer equipment and lab furnishing regularly. Attend to printers and load printerss with paper. Monitor lab activities and enforce lab rules. Answer phone and take messages. Report problems and other issues in the lab to supervisor. You must be willing to work in busy and demanding settings. Must have taken at least one CS or CIS class at SMC. Computer related majors are preferred. Basic training is provided.
