SRI Program

Admission Priorities

The Science Research Initiative (SRI) is an academic support program designed to assist students interested in pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) majors/careers. The SRI program will help program participants successfully complete their studies at SMC, transfer to ANY baccalaureate program, and/or enter the STEM workforce. This program works closely with partners at UCLA, specifically the Center for Community College Partnerships and the Undergraduate Research Center.

SRI is a rigorous program that REQUIRES students to ATTEND:

         1) Counseling sessions (2 per semester)

2) STEM workshops (1-2 per semester)

3) Academic Support Programming (Supplemental Instruction,

    Tutoring, Lecture Series, etc.)

4) Peer mentoring with UCLA (1 meeting per month)

5) UCLA CCCP Saturday Academies (3 per year)

6) 1 Program Orientation (June 18th or 19th)

7) STEM Skills Week (August 17th-21st)


SRI Scholars are also REQUIRED to REGISTER for:

1) 1 STEM Course (minimum) every semester at SMC: Math (non-business), Computer Science, Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Sustainable Technologies, Engineering)

2) Maintain at least a 2.8 GPA each semester.

3) Enroll in AT LEAST 12 units each semester

4) STEM Career Courses (Counseling 12) and Job Strategies

    Course (Counseling 15)

5) Principles & Practice of Scientific Research (Science 10)

    Course offered Winter & Spring
