Deloitte National Leadership Conference Attendee & Accounting SI Leader Reflects on her Time at SMC.
SMC Alumna, Nancy Bouabsi
I took my first Accounting class at SMC in Spring of 2012 with Professor Resnick and never even imagined the journey this class would take me on. By the end of the semester I realized I had a passion for Accounting and it was something I would definitely be interested in pursuing. Professor Resnick contacted me at the end of the semester asking if I would be interested in being the SI leader for her class, which conflicted with my schedule in the fall, but I was excited that I had the opportunity to be the SI leader the following spring. While I was the SI leader for Accounting 1, Professor Resnick approached me with the opportunity to apply for the chance to attend the Deloitte National Leadership Conference. I was one of two students from SMC selected to attend the conference this past summer in Texas which was one of the most incredible opportunities I have had in my college experience so far. I learned more about public accounting, the importance of networking, and about myself than I imagined I would have going into this experience. I was able to connect with many professionals from Deloitte that I am still in contact with, who all have provided me with excellent advice for the career path I have chosen to take.
I am now at UC San Diego as an Economics major and Accounting minor, and am working towards earning my degree and hopefully obtaining my CPA. I encourage all students at SMC to take every opportunity that is given to you, and remember that it is never too early to start networking and getting your name out there. Good luck to you all!
