Laurie Lieberman currently serves on the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education. Ms. Lieberman was elected to the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education in November 2010, and served as Board President from 2012 to 2013.

She received a B.A. in Sociology from UCLA in 1975, graduated from UCLA Law School in 1978, and completed all coursework toward a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning at UCLA in the mid 1980’s. She has many years of experience working with government, non-profit and community agencies, grappling with public policy and educational issues.

Ms. Lieberman worked for thirteen years as an attorney in the Santa Monica City Attorney’s Office, focusing on policy and urban planning-related issues. She also worked as an attorney and hearing examiner for the Santa Monica Rent Control Board during its nascent years.

She has been involved in the SMMUSD since 1996 in school PTAs, serving in leadership positions in school-related groups formed to affect District policy, helping pass revenue-raising measures, most recently co-chairing the District’s successful bond campaign in November 2012 (Measure ES).
