Unless noted otherwise, concerts are held in The Broad Stage or in The Edye, both located at the SMC Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Santa Monica Blvd. & 11th St., Santa Monica. Advance tickets for concerts with an admission charge may be purchased online (www.smc.edu/eventsinfo), by phone at (310) 434-3005, or in person at the SMC Theatre Arts Box Office (Theatre Arts Complex, SMC Main Campus; limited hours). A modest service charge applies. Tickets may also be purchased at the door 45 minutes before event start time. ​

Seating is strictly on a first-arrival basis.

SMC Symphony Orchestra

James Martin, Director. The SMC campus community orchestra’s 31st season opens with an October concert featuring 12-year-old pianist Cassandra Carrasco performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major (K. 488), and Mendelssohn’s classic favorite ‘Scottish’ Symphony No. 3 in A minor. The November concert features Tchaikovsky’s final masterpiece—Symphony No. 6 in B minor (‘Pathetique’)—and also, for the fourth year running, performances by a selection of highly talented youth soloists from the Westside Music Foundation.

SMC Wind Ensemble

Kevin McKeown, Conductor. October concert features an exciting mixture of both new and traditional music written specifically for the ensemble. December concert rejoices with music of the season to bring cheer to all, and features a very special guest conductor—a local middle school student—winner of the annual SMC Wind Ensemble Essay Contest! All ages are welcome!

Keith Fiddmont, Conductor. The ensemble will perform jazz band arrangements from the masters, as well as contemporary works from aspiring composers and arrangers. Renowned guest artists will join the band to explore the music of Duke Ellington, Oliver Nelson, and others.

Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Ballet

The SMC Symphony and SMC student dancers partner once again with the Westside Ballet for its annual holiday Nutcracker extravaganza. Come see the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Prince, and all the other wonderful characters in Tchaikovsky’s classic come to life—with falling snow and a Christmas tree that grows—in a theater where every seat provides visual and audio delights for all ages. Produced with support from Santa Monica College, the SMC Public Policy Institute, Associated Students of SMC, and the City of Santa Monica. Tom Luer:Project Popular

Formed in 2009 and led by saxophonist, composer, arranger, and producer Tom Luer, Project Popular is a Los Angeles-based jazz ensemble that performs jazz interpretations of pop and rock songs—including the music of Pearl Jam, Alicia Keys, Gotye, Sam Smith and more—as well as original compositions.

Dan Reckard: Bossa

Zuzu

 Saxman/pianist Dan Reckard and guitarist/vocalist Capital teamed up in 2011 to form Bossa Zuzu, a neo-Bossa Nova group of some of LA’s brightest emerging jazz talent that is reviving the classic Bossa Nova sound for the 21st Century.​
