I am a graduate of the California Community College System, having received my A.A. from American River College after returning to school as a single parent of three. I then transferred to CSU-Sacramento, where I received my B.A. in English before transferring to CSU-Chico to pursue a Master's in Communication Studies.
Since graduating from CSU-Chico in 1994, I have been a full-time faculty member in the Los Rios Community College District, seven years at Sacramento City College and the last nine years at Folsom Lake College.
During my tenure as a faculty member, I have assumed a variety of responsibilities, including department chair, director of the district speech and debate team, grant coordinator a comprehensive faculty development program, professional development committee chair, curriculum committee chair, and officer in the Academic Senate at both SCC and FLC. I have also served as the District Curriculum Coordinating Committee Chair and as a member of the District Academic Senate.
For the past 8 years, I have served as college president for the faculty union and member of the Executive Board of the local; in addition to that ongoing position, I currently serve as the chief negotiator for the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers (LRCFT), and continue to serve as a member of our district dispute resolution team.
