Lisa Phares Marchand, Professor of English as a Second Language at Cosumnes River College, also teaches Linguistics. Once the recipient of the National Consortium for Staff, Program, and Organizational Development (NCSPOD) Leadership Award, she has served two terms as Cosumnes River College Academic Senate President, chaired the Professional Development Committee, facilitated district-wide curriculum alignment retreats and served as the co-editor of the 2009 Accreditation Self-Study. Although she has been a full-time professor for most of the last two decades, Ms. Marchand has also been a community college student, a classified staff member in disability services, and adjunct teacher of American Sign Language. She has served California Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (CATESOL) as Executive Board Secretary, Nominations Chair, State Conference Program Chair, and State Conference Site Chair. Lisa's preferred leisure activities are gardening, reading, painting, and entertaining. Her education includes advanced studies in teaching reading, a bachelor's in Communication Studies from CSU, Sacramento, and a master's degree in Linguistics from the University of California, Davis.
